“Assalomu allayqum” or just “Salom”

Before traveling, try at least to learn to say “Hello” in Uzbek language which is “Assalomu allayqum” or simply “salom”. It is the minimum effort you can make to reward people's hospitality!!!

Bring new socks!!!

Do not forget that Uzbekistan is full of mosques and pilgrimage sites that you will visit, therefore, the outfit is correct, avoiding the use of shorts or sleeveless t-shirts. But above all, make sure you don't wear socks with holes because before entering the mosques you will have to take off your shoes!!!

Bargaining is possile!!!

Bargaining is possible. Despite the disparity in purchasing power, do not forget that people are very generous – always try to apply the right price.

Tips

As for the tip, restaurants include it in the bill (around 20%), however you can round up the total so that your waiter will feel even more rewarded.

Friendly people!

Uzbekistan is a country that is opening up to the Western world. Don't be surprised to be approached by people who want to talk to you simply to exchange a few phrases in English or another language and even to take a photo with you. Just like you, they are also curious to meet with you, it is a great opportunity to make contact with them.

Be in shape to eat on the floor!

If you plan to attend an Uzbek dinner we highly recommend a stretching session or a Pilates training before your arrival in Uzbekistan. You may be sitting on a rug surrounded by several people. Without good leg exercise you will have difficulty getting up!!!
